Specialist Biomedical Scientist

Fixed term: 5 months

Full time - 37.5 hours per week

Milton Keynes

£35,392 - £42,618 Per annum pro rata

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, energetic, and highly motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our client’s Microbiology laboratory team on a fixed term contract/secondment ending March 2024 with demonstratable competency and experience at the required level.

The ideal applicant for this role will need to be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, familiar with Quality Assurance and Quality Management Systems with a genuine desire to further their learning and provide a safe service at the highest standard.

The laboratory has recently undergone a phase of modernisation with technology such as, Maldi-TOF, BiomerieuxBiofire, Vitek, Bactec FX 400, Beckman DXI, DiaSorin Liaison, IQ100 Sprint analysers, Cepheid GeneXpert, Samba II, Roche Cobas, DS2, and Automate.

The successful candidate will be required to participate in the current core, late afternoon, and night shift system, thus providing a 24/7 service 7 days a week including weekends, and public holidays. This work model may be superseded by an on-call service, participation is expected.

Main duties of the job include but are not limited to

The laboratory processes over 220,000 sample requests per year, the Department is accredited for HCPC/IBMS training and is currently working towards acquiring UKAS accreditation status.

The department provides good opportunities for CPD and ongoing education/training relevant to the job role will be supported. The laboratory is also a part of South 4 Pathology Partnership Network and works very closely with other Network laboratories

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria

  • HCPC Registration
  • In process/completed IBMS Specialist Portfolio
  • Evidence of relevent CPD
  • Knowledge of UKAS accreditation process and standards
  • Understanding of Health and safety policies, COSHH assessments
  • Knowledge of working in CL2 & 3 areas of the lab, QMS, LIMS etc…
