CK Group are recruiting for a Director of Science to join an environmental company on a full time, permanent basis. This is a remote role to be based in Europe, with frequent travel required.
The Company:
Our client is a start-up in the climate industry, focusing on carbon dioxide removal. They are developing novel processes and are now looking for an individual with a strong academic and corporate background in earth sciences, geochemistry, agronomy, biology and biochemistry to lead their science department and R&D efforts. The successful candidate will provide leadership over all science verticals, will coordinate research across various scientific disciplines, will write quarterly reports, and will oversee the development of the company's scientific strategy and R&D roadmap.

This is a remote role based in Europe, with frequent travel required both within Europe and to the rest of the world.
Director of Science Role:
Your main responsibilities will be to:
- Lead correspondence between science staff, collaborators, contributors, advisors, science candidates and recruits
- Serve as the main liaison with external academic research partners
- Familiarise yourself with the full body of research from the internal science team
- Read, synthesise and track relevant literature and be able interpret research data and findings
- Manage laboratory sampling and testing schedules and develop standards for best practices, refine testing protocols
- Oversee the tracking and documentation of test results and produce quarterly seasonal reports
- Build the company?s R&D roadmap and oversee lab build
- Attend and present at academic and climate-focused conferences
- Provide quarterly investor updates, and year-end reports
- Lead on grant applications
- Serve as liaison with patent attorneys
- As a central point of contact, you will manage and balance multiple concurrent research projects, collaborating with researchers while maintaining process and protocol standards
In this role, the candidate will oversee:
- Geochemical modelling and enhanced weathering
- Plant & soil sciences including agronomy, microbiome, plant genetics and regenerative agriculture
Your Background:
The ideal candidate for this role will have the following skills and experience:
- Prior high-level experience in managing a science team
- Strong written and verbal science communication skills for grant-writing and patent development
- Comfortable communicating with external stakeholders
- Solutions-driven with the ability to navigate adeptly among academics, in-house staff, stakeholders, and partners
- Ideally Masters or PhD qualified in relevant scientific subjects e.g. geochemistry and plant science
- Experience gained in private industry with a background in academi
- Proven experience of managing laboratories and supervising teams of scientists in an academic or corporate environment
- A comprehensive, broad-level understanding of processes related to agronomy, biochemistry, bioremediation, microbiology, mineralogy, geochemistry, inorganic carbon
- Must be prepared to travel frequently
