Quality Officer/Technician – Materials / Composites Scientist

Wales   •  27-28K  •  Permanent, Full time


This is a great opportunity for a Material Scientist to work within the Quality Department of a well-established organization based in the South Wales area. Providing quality support for the projects as well as practical support to the production team as required.

Also, ensuring the continuousand efficient processing of QC tests for commercial production.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree educated (or equivalent) in materials science or relevant subject.
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing and research and development environment in an appropriate related field.
  • Experience of working with/testing mechanical and composite materials
  • Familiar with problem solving tools, root cause analysis, and able to analyse outcomes and trends.
  • Advanced IT skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for ensuring HSE, manufacturing, and quality standards and procedures are adhered to.
  • Ensure compliance to Anti Bribery and GDPR policies for the business.
  • Understanding customer needs and requirements to develop effective quality control processes.
  • Reviewing specifications for products or processes
  • Setting requirements for raw material or intermediate products for suppliers and monitoring their compliance
  • Collate process parameters and liaise with the operations staff to establish process trends.
  • Provide SPC analysis support through the compilation of data and interpretation of results.
  • Oversee product development and testing procedures to identify deviations from quality standards.
  • Support the Company preparations for annual H&S audits and maintaining certification to ISO EN 9001 & 14001
  • Perform/coordinate laboratory tasks including calibrations and maintenance.
  • Investigate any materials that have been assessed as out of specification.
  • Assisting the technical team to aid improvement on material and process analysis.
  • Support the company in meeting its obligations under safety legislation COSHH, REACH, CLP, Dangerous goods.
  • Attending appropriate training courses, seminars and conferences as may be required by the company.
  • Prepare formal process and analytical reports as requested.
  • Provide support for commercial and technical projects in line with business strategy.
  • Undertake tasks in support of business growth and technology exploitation.

Personal Qualities:

  • High level understanding of MS Office.
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks to KPI’s, deadlines and JIT principles.
  • Ability to prepare, analyse and interpret data.
  • Open minded and flexible with a positive work attitude.
  • Highly self-motivated and capable of multi-tasking
