Senior CFD Engineer

A market-leading energy storage business based in Guildford is currently recruiting a Senior CFD Engineer to join its team on a permanent basis. As Senior CFD Engineer, you will play a vital role in providing solutions to innovative projects involving CFD, thermal and structural analysis for mechanical systems.

Senior CFD Engineer responsibilities

  • Perform CFD, thermal and structural analysis for mechanical systems.
  • Analysis subject matter expert for fuel systems, combustion, air/fluid flows and related.
  • Lead analysis activities and mentor others across all levels.
  • Ability to act as a Technical Lead for projects.
  • Provide technical expertise in problem resolution, cost reduction and quality improvement.
  • Support the mechanical design team in product design and development activities.
  • Provide effective design solutions to optimise product functionality, reliability, and stability.
  • Follow best practices for accurate computational efficiency.
  • Provide accurate and detailed reports of CFD results, suitable for product verifications and compliance.
  • Perform technical design reviews and recommend improvement.
  • Work with the test team in developing and executing design verification plans and testing methods.
  • To attend design reviews, layouts, HAZOPs, and 3D model reviews for mechanical designs.
  • Lead development of new method and technology for CFD analysis.
  • Maintain complete documentation for CFD analysis and engineering methods.
  • Develop and maintain process improvements and standard work practices for operational efficiency.

Senior CFD Engineer requirements

  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Proven experience and background in the design and development of mechanical systems.
  • Capable of performing hand calculations to provide initial design direction and confidence in simulation results.
  • High level of knowledge of 3D computer aided design (CAD) software packages - preferably Solidworks.
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Understanding of physical failure methods and approaches to root cause analysis.
  • Good grasp of design verification approaches and ability to define suitable test methods.
  • Effective communicator. Able to present appropriate, concise, and accurate information in both written and verbal formats.
  • Able to undertake structural FE analysis of components and assemblies.
  • Capable of progressing tasks autonomously with a minimum of supervision.
  • Comfortable with multi-tasking, leading and prioritising activities. Setting and planning work effectively to ensure project deadlines are met.
