Senior Director, European Operations
Location: office based from London or Sussex
Salary: £90-120K plus 20% bonus
Exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding and high performing biotechnology organisation as Senior Director, European Operations. Reporting to the SVP Global Operations in the US, the Senior Director, European Operations will take responsibility for managing EU operations consisting on multiple UK & EU facilities. This exciting and challenging role will see the successful Senior Director, European Operations working with diverse teams across a number of operational divisions. It will suit an experience General Manager/Operations Director with experience from the biotech or related sectors who has a proven track record of success managing multi-functional divisions and leading teams to deliver strategic company goals; business growth and employee development. You will be highly process driven with adept Project Management skills and an ability to support your team to manage complex operational, logistical and technical challenges to a global marketplace.
Duties of the Senior Director, European Operations will include:
- Be responsible for multiple sites and divisions including medical/clinical facilities, client technical services, procurement and clinical sourcing, logistics and distribution
- Deliver profitable growth whilst achieving operational excellence, best-in-class products and the very highest level of customer service and support to customers
- Support your team in a positive leadership role to achieve their business operational targets and plan for strategic corporate goals
- Set the plan and strategy to achieve strategy for European Operations
- Mentor staff; promoting continued professional and personal development of your immediate team and your teams’ team
- Create a culture of quality, success and customer focus
- Lead in the setting and management of systems, policies & processes to support the effective running of the business
- Ensure full compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements
- Work with the Finance Manager to set and manage departmental and EU operational budgets
- Project manage major corporate tasks
- Develop strong working relationships with key customers and suppliers
- Lead Continuity Planning for the business
Essential Criteria;
- Degree qualified in a Science, Engineering or business
- 12 yrs+ experience operational management experience of multiple functions departments including Lab operations, Customer Support/service, Procurement, Manufacturing, Distribution & Logistics
- Extensive experience working within the Biotech, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Medical or Clinical sectors
- At least 10 years direct management experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in a senior leadership role
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working across global markets and the challenges associated with global distribution, cold-chain supply and customer support
- Process driven within a recognised certification/training within an approved process improvement framework (Lean, Six Sigma etc..)
- An accomplished Project Manager with associated training (e.g. PMP, Prince2)
- Knowledge or ERP systems and ideally a background implementing new processes and systems
- Commercial experience leading customer negotiations etc..
- P&L management experience (own and team)
- Experience of Business Continuity and Emergency Planning
- Strong analytical abilities to process and query business and operational data to support decision making, forecasting and strategic planning
- A proven business mentor with a track record of developing teams to promote professional and personal development of others and achieve success through others
This is an office based role so applicants must either be based within a reasonable commute of offices in London or Sussex or be prepared to relocate. There will be regular UK travel along with periodic EU and US trips.
