Cambridgeshire   •  Negotiable  •  Permanent, Full time

Junior Research Scientist - Assay Development

A pioneer of biotechnology products in Cambridge is looking for a junior assay scientist to complement their research team. This will be on a one-year fixed term contract with a view to go permanent thereafter. This role would be perfect for a graduate or for a junior scientist with some industry experience already.

This is an excellent opportunity where you will be able to make a real difference with your work, developing novel medicines that aim to improve the patient's life, taking therapeutics from inception all the way through to clinical trials.

You will be utilising your biochemical assay development experience and will work on the creation of novel biochemical assays, in particular you will be developing plate-based assays. You will also be profiling compounds as well as using bench top automation and data analysis tools.

Reporting directly to the CSO and working closely with senior biologists, you will be afforded with the freedom and autonomy to make this role your own and will be provided with all the tools you need to be a success in this position.

The company's target time to market is two to three years and they are well backed by their parent organisation. This means that you get all the benefits and fun of working in a start-up, coupled with long-term security.

The company are also looking at new ways to implement microfluidic technology and machine learning algorithms to speed up processes and improve accuracy.

To be considered for this exciting role you will need to have the following;

  • An understanding of plate-based assays and compound profiling
  • Experience or knowledge of bench top automation and data analysis
  • Ideally educated to MSc level with industry experience but we are open to PhDs and BSc graduates
  • Any exposure to cell culture would be an advantage.

The company are open-minded on this hire and place a lot of emphasis on the personality of the scientist and so will provide training if you are perhaps missing some of the experience needed for this role.

In exchange for your skills and expertise, the company offer a package that will be tailored to your expectations and the chance to join an exceptional team of scientists and bring new ideas to realisation. Upon being made a permanent employee they also provide a bonus programme and healthcare/pension options.
