R&D USP Scientist

Are you a proactive scientist or senior scientist with an adept ability to troubleshoot assays?

SRG are supporting a business who provide key services to the biopharma industry by creating enzymes and other protein-based products. These products go on to support pharmaceutical, IVD and clinical chemistry around the world and have a huge impact across the industry.

You will be joining a company dedicated to future thinking, with a new GMP facility, constantly evolving services to clients. The business is also keen to reduce its impact on the environment, and does this by making its own water, and produces electricity on site, reducing its overall environmental impact.

This is a brilliant opportunity for R&D Scientists operating at different levels, who understands analytical method transfer, and protein purification and looking to be a key part of a company who are under-going huge growth whilst maintaining a real close-team feel.

You will:

  • Be mainly working on DSP and analytical activities, but potentially some involvement with USP work.
  • Be responsible for executing detailed work plans in the Downstream/Bioanalytical subject matter area, within tightly planned Research and Development (R&D) projects through Feasibility and Development phases, generating data to be used in Process/Analytical Outlines for hand-over to Process Transfer; largely focused on Biopharma CDMO projects but will also respond to approved Diagnostics projects, as required.
  • Work under the overall project plans, adhering as closely to project timelines and goals as technical progress allows, carrying out planned work, recording and writing up data generated.
  • Contribute time to working on Upstream or Analytical tasks, as determined by R&D Leaders
  • Build expertise with relevant laboratory equipment and instruments, sufficient to take responsibility for writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) defining methods for safe and effective use.
  • Work under the overall project plans, adhering as closely to project timelines and goals as technical progress allows, carrying out planned work, recording and writing up data generated.
  • Be able to join the business with more autonomy, and leadership to guide the team.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Have a degree, masters (or equivalent) in Bioscience/ Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Some level of exposure to industry (different levels of experienced based on role level).
  • A proficient understanding of differentanalytical methods such as

    • HPLC, SDS PAGE, enzyme activity assays, and titre assays.

  • Assay optimisation
  • Experience of protein concentration testing, molarity equations and making solutions and buffers.
  • Experience of transferring methods, and ideally proof of concepts.
  • Have some experience within Bioanalysis/DSP in a pharma/ biopharma environment ideally for a CDMO.
  • Be an autonomous critical thinker, with a positive attitude.
  • Enjoy working as part of a tight knit team.
  • Experience working with E-notebooks would be advantageous.
  • Supervisory experience would be beneficial for the higher level.
