Assistant Electrical Technician

Hampshire   •  £18000 - £22000 per annum  •  Contract/Temporary, Full time

We are working with a business that operates within the chemical process and manufacturing sector, they are looking for an Assistant Electrical Technician to join the instrument department where you will support in the build, assemble, test, repair and calibrate process safety and JCI electrostatic measurement test instruments for both in-house and external test laboratory customers.

To be successful you should have an interest in electronics or electrical applications and ideally possess experience working on wiring control panels, switches, and connectors within a commercial or academic setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with any assemblies, sub-assembly fabrication including both electrical/electronic and mechanical devices.
  • Update of equipment directories for work completed.
  • Wiring up of enclosure panels using good manufacturing practice whilst following in-house build procedures for equipment you have received training in.
  • Machining of holes for, and mounting of, panel components related to PS and JCI range of instrumentation using in-house hand tools for equipment you have received training in.
  • To pick parts from stock for particular jobs.
  • Assist with repairing of in house and customer equipment as and when required.
  • Assist the other instrument Engineers and instrument department support administrator as and where required.


  • You will have a keen interest in electrical/electronic/mechanical devices and a thirst for knowledge.
  • Ideally, you will have had exposure in past employment within a bespoke fabrication role or within a college environment where you have demonstrated dexterity of practical skills through project work.
  • You MUST have dexterity with your hands and possess practical skills for handling screwdrivers, socket spanners, files, hand saws, hand drills etc. Lathe/pillar drill experience is also an advantage.
  • Ideally, you will have hand soldering skills of small components.
  • You will have a logical mind that can read and understand instructions, circuits, and mechanical drawings.

Salary: £18,000 - £22,000
