Research Scientist: AAV Gene Delivery (adeno-associated virus)

An entrepreneurial gene synthesis organisation are seeking a Research Associate to support with their ambitious growth plans, within the R&D team. Your role will be pivotal in supporting the scaling of a proprietary DNA manufacturing process, and development of non-viral nanoparticles and AAV vectors for DNA delivery.

Core role requirements:

  • Development and optimisation of AAV vectors for gene therapy
  • Take a lead on the production and purification systems to develop research-grade AAV
  • Suggest ways for improvement of the AAV production through use of synthetic DNA templates
  • Performance of analytical techniques on vector preparations such as q-PCR, ELISA, protein gels
  • Maintaining an accurate LIMS, ensuring the validity and efficacy of data and records, maintenance of laboratory equipment according to health and safety guidance and SOPs
  • Attend and participate in company meetings, training and professional development sessions as required
  • You may be required to travel to other sites as necessary (with notice)

Person specification:

  • Extensive background in working with AAV production and purification using HEK293 cells
  • PhD or Masters in a relevant discipline plus industry experience in an area with good synergy to gene synthesis and AAV production
  • Proven hands-on skills with classic molecular skills (western blot, PCR, flow cytometry), cell culture (transfection, infection, banking, revival etc) and experience working with cell-based assays (ELISA)
  • You will also need some good working knowledge of cloning DNA constructs in bacterial systems
