Laboratory Technician

Surrey   •  £20000 - £25000 per annum  •  Permanent, Full time


A fast-growing renewables and environmental company have an exciting new job opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join their in-house laboratory team. You will organize and perform sampling at the plants, perform sample analysis and assist on laboratory management. You will need a chemistry or biology based scientific degree and previous laboratory experience is advantageous.

Role

Assist the Lab Manager to operate and manage the in-house laboratory. Organize or perform, as required, sampling at the Plants, perform requested sample analyses in the laboratory, log and report the results.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Lab manager in the biology department
  • Technical advice, guidance and instruction to other employees
  • Frequent contact with site operators and regional feedstock managers
  • Occasional contact with finance department
  • Frequent external contact with materials and equipment suppliers as well as costumers
  • Assist on laboratory operation and management
  • Organize or perform sampling and ensure samples are collected at the client's Plants
  • Perform chemical and biological analyses and tests as requested within the expected time frame and in an accurate and safe manner
  • Log and report the analyses and tests results
  • Maintain laboratory and biology department database
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment
  • Order and control stocks to ensure the operation of the laboratory

Experience

  • Degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or related discipline
  • Laboratory experience during your studies is required. Laboratory experience in a working environment is a major advantage.
  • Genuine interest in environmental sciences and laboratory work
  • Accuracy and excellent attention to detail
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to plan and prioritise complex workloads
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Teamwork skills
  • Availability to travel within the UK
  • Drive licence
