Legal Counsel
Global Head Quarters, Slough Berkshire

The Legal Counsel will assist with providing legal and compliance advice to the business, legal colleagues, and senior internal stakeholders on a wide range of issues and queries that arise in the areas of competition law, economic crimes, trade sanctions and anti-money laundering. The specific responsibilities are as follows:
Compliance Legal Programmes
Provision of legal advice and consultation to business units operating globally across all areas of Legal Compliance, including dealing with a high volume of often complex queries
Partnering with Legal teams from different Business Units and Corporate to ensure my clients Compliance Programme in relation to Competition, Sanctions and AML is effective
Assisting with the oversight of policies, procedures, and guidelines, including drafting and reviewing/upgrading, and development of trainings on a regular basis
Fostering a culture of Legal Compliance awareness by raising awareness and advocating compliant behaviour
Embedding Legal Compliance across all relevant company processes and systems
Sharing of best practices across the group, predominantly the Legal and Ethics & Compliance functions
Developing tools and guidance notes and assist with the risk assessment across key functions and markets
Enhance documentation (policies and guidance, contracts, certification) and recording (demonstrate compliance, audit trail, surveys / interviews, oversight) in Legal Compliance matters
Key Challenges
This role requires the ability to digest large amounts of information quickly
This role is global in its outlook and will require an ability to apply domestic, EU and US Legal Compliance laws to arrangements and business practices which span a number of territories globally and/or to research and interpret applicable laws in those jurisdictions
The person appointed will need to build strong relationships with, and gain the trust of, business and legal colleagues, including area, region, and country management level quickly, including in order to raise awareness of Legal Compliance issues generally and the relevant capabilities available within the Group Legal Compliance team
The person appointed will need to prioritise and spot red flag issues quickly, and be able to offer advice commercially-orientated and ensure that complex legal principles are explained quickly and simply
Qualifications
Essential
Qualified lawyer with experience in Legal Compliance technical areas gained in private practice at a prominent firm or in-house at a leading international business
Subject matter expert in at least one Legal Compliance subject area
Able to work in a multi-disciplinary context
Ability to establish strong working relationships with senior stakeholders from other functions, business, and legal colleagues, including area, region and country management in a wide range of jurisdictions
Highly desirable
Experience of cross functional co-operation
Experience of working in-house
Knowledge of the consumer goods sector
Personal Attributes
Ability to establish good working relationships with highly demanding internal clients and other stakeholders
Robust and confident manner and an ability to work autonomously
Ability to manage complex legal issues with a high degree of commerciality and pragmatism
Fluency in English is essential; any additional languages would be advantageous
