Head of Analytical Chemistry

Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire GL55 6LD   •  £55,000-£70,000 dependent on experience + Car  •  Permanent, Full time

Campden BRI are the leaders in practical scientific, technical, regulatory and consultancy for the food & drink industry (manufactures and retailers), we work closely with industry to ensure the industrial relevance of everything we do. A large part of the services we offer are our analytical chemistry testing including microscopy, chromatography, allergens, food composition etc. We?re looking to grow this department through hiring a Head of Operations, who will oversee the day to day operational and people management.

Your role will be leading and managing the operations of Analytical Services at the Chipping Campden site, running an efficient high volume laboratory operation, ensuring effective processes to deliver accurate and informative support for clients, leading a large team to deliver on time and to budget targets, develop scientific capabilities; manage, develop and flex staff resources, facilities and equipment; budgets and financial performance; service standards, quality and health & safety.

You?ll have a relevant science degree, have worked in wide-ranging experience in chemical & analytical sciences with food & drink testing and have experience of leading laboratory operations in a large volume commercial laboratory.

We have great teams in place that you will be able to coach, support and develop. You will have a broad knowledge of the analytical requirements for the food and beverage industry, to include inorganic and organic analysis of contaminants, nutrients, and functional components.

  • A working knowledge of the analytical techniques and instrumentation used within the 4 operational analytical Sections
  • Senior experience in a Food & drink chemistry testing lab
  • Proven people management skills
  • Experience of leading and implementing efficiency changes; always seeking improvements and increased capacity
  • Proven competence in managing timely and cost-effective delivery of technical services
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of the needs of the food and related industries would be desirable
  • Experienced in the implementation of quality/business management systems and the requirements of the ISO 17025 standards.
