A market leading fuel cell R&D business based in Guildford is currently recruiting for a Systems Simulation Engineer to join its diagnostics team on a permanent basis. This is a critical role where you will be responsible for the continuous improvement of simulation activities whilst analysing test data to product mathematical models to enhance performance.
Systems Simulation Engineer responsibilities
- Correlation of test data and characterisation data, performing statistical analyses to determine trends, and incorporating these trends into mathematical models and simulations to improve their predictive power.
- Use a range of simulation techniques to create and maintain material, cell, stack, and system models.
- Balance of Plant component sizing.
- Thermal management.
- Control strategy development.
- Simulation techniques including CFD, Multiphysics, Electrochemical, Structural/Mechanical, Mathematical.
- Quality assurance and quality control.
- Dissemination of findings to internal and external stakeholders, in written report and verbal presentations.
- Active commitment to operational health and safety, diversity and inclusion.
Systems Simulation Engineer requirements
- Degree level qualification (MSc/MEng/PhD/EngD is preferred) in Chemical Engineering or closely related field.
- Strong data analysis skills.
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- An understanding of the importance of proper and thorough documentation of procedures, models, and results.
- Experience in using any or all the following software, or similar, in a commercial or academic environment:
- CFD analysis software eg OpenFOAM, Ansys Fluent, Siemens STAR-CCM+
- Matlab
- COMSOL Multiphysics;
- Finite Element Analysis software eg. ansys mechanical, Abaqus
- An understanding, and/or a keen desire to understand, the underlying mechanisms which govern fuel cell performance and degradation
