Transfer Station Manager

We are working with a leading, environmental, waste management organisation, looking to appoint a transfer station manager at its site in Oxfordshire. You will assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Transfer Station, ensuring that all activities comply with the PPC Permit, Company Policies, Management Systems, and applicable legislation.

In addition, assess and allocate workloads, ensure site procedures are implemented, address any issues that arise with operators, drivers, contractors, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and report against the site budget.
  • Assess and manage recruitment and organise on-going training and development.
  • Ensure that the site is kept clean and tidy and that all waste is stored in accordance with the PPC Permit.
  • Liaise with the Environment Agency and other regulatory bodies as applicable.
  • Promote high standard towards work, health and safety and mirror behaviours associated with Company Values.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full compliance with all Company policies and procedures, including health and safety and employment.
  • Ensure that site operations comply with the PPC Permits, UK legislation and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure the Transfer Station operates in full compliance with the H&S, Environmental, Quality and energy requirements of the Integrated Management System and the associated external accreditations to ISO45001; ISO9001; ISO14001, ISO50001, as well as the Competent Management System.
  • Allocate workloads for operators to ensure that the movement of waste through the site is maintained, including organising the removal of waste from site to maximise efficient working.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness within the Transfer Station for health, safety, welfare, and security matters and, in this respect, to lead by example and take a pro-active approach.
  • Write and review Safe Operating Procedures.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Degree in Chemistry (or Chemistry/Environmental related discipline)
  • COTC Level 4 - either Managing Transfer or Treatment Operations
  • Full UK driving licence
  • At least 5 years' waste management experience
  • Understand all current UK legislation associated with the waste industry
  • Able to work calmly and make accurate decisions in potentially difficult situations
  • Strong team leader with ability to promote high standard of work
  • Clean and tidy work ethic, ability to convey this to operators and chemists

Salary: £. Competitive
Hours: 40 hours each week - 08.00 to 17.00 (1 hour lunch)
