Title: Scientist - Molecular Biology and Vector Development

Location: North East of England

Salary: £25-32,000 per annum

SRG are currently working with a very well-established organisation which is responsible for technical innovations across the UK in different scientific sectors. In response to an increasing breadth of specialist projects in the area, they are looking to hire an experience mammalian cell culture scientist to join their upstream team. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with mammalian cell culture, cell based assays and purification at the early stage of process development. Your Responsibilities:

  • To have and continuously develop a good knowledge/expertise relevant to molecular, vector and cell biology, to utilise expertise to develop and validate expression systems for the production of biopharmaceutical products, suitable for transfer into upstream processing.

Your knowledge/expertise should be both practical and theoretical in areas such as:

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge in Molecular Biology, Synthetic expression, Cell biology and engineering, high throughput screening and associated analytical assay development.
  • Lead and deliver experimentation around the development and validation of synthetic and cell based-expression systems suitable for the production of protein and gene-therapy based biologics including mRNA, viral vectored products and other novel systems. To include design and execution of proof-of-concept studies at appropriate scale for subsequent studies.
  • Application of techniques for the analysis of proteins, DNA, RNA and other biologics including cell-based assays.
  • Application of experimental design and statistical concepts to experimental planning
  • Knowledge of bioprocessing industry and cGMP concepts


  • A degree in a biological science related field with mammalian cell culture experience (Essential).
  • Experience in the operation of bioreactors (eg. Sartorius, Infors, Applikon etc).
  • Development and application of analytical methods for titre analysis e.g. SDS-PAGE, HPLC and/or ELISA.
  • cGMP experience in a bio/pharmaceutical manufacturing or R&D setting (Desired).
