Process Development Chemist

South Yorkshire   •  £20000 - £30000 per annum  •  Permanent, Full time


CK Group are recruiting for a Process Development Chemist to join a leading provider of speciality metals, alloys and materials. The role is based in Rotherham on a full time, permanent basis. The salary for this role is up to 30,000 DOE

The Role:

  • To carry out process development work in the laboratory to facilitate the generation of cost effective process routes for key raw materials.
  • To operate a pilot plant to safely upscale new processes developed in the laboratory.

Your main duties will be:

  • Design, plan and perform experiments on a laboratory scale to support the development of new processes.
  • To write and implement laboratory experimental procedures to promote safe working practices in the laboratory to meet both AMG requirements and also to comply with external legislation.
  • To safely and efficiently operate the pilot plant to support the Project Manager in the development of new cost effective manufacturing processes.
  • Carry out all work in accordance with Health, Safety and Environmental Policies.
  • Generate the data required by the Project Manager in a timely manner so that project deadlines are met.
  • Assist in the development of analytical methods in support of business requirements.
  • Ensure that training is carried out and recorded in accordance with the plan given by senior management.
  • Perform regular housekeeping and safety inspections and report any issues to management.
  • Provide support to the technical department with any other process requirements as and when required.

Other duties

  • Precise planning of work on a daily basis to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Timely completion of all laboratory and pilot plant work to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Compliance with Health and Safety, Environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains a professional image.
  • High integrity with the ability to work accurately and with good attention to detail.
  • Follow safe working procedures and demonstrate a duty of care to yourself, other employees, customers and external parties.
  • Meet personal and team targets/ objectives.

Your Background:
The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Degree in Chemistry.
  • Expertise in a wide range of laboratory skills and analytical techniques.
  • Hands on experience of scale up from laboratory to pilot plant.
  • Good decision making, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to respond quickly and efficiently to a change in working priorities.
  • PC literate (Microsoft office) and able to readily prepare written reports detailing the results of experimental work.
  • Enthusiastic and motivated.
