Arbovirologist – Higher Scientific Officer
We seek an experienced scientist to join our Vector-Borne Diseases workgroup to manage the delivery of mosquito- and tick-borne zoonotic virus testing and to develop research projects, including authoring peer-reviewed papers, presenting at conferences and training students.
As part of the National Reference Laboratory for arboviral diseases within the Animal and Plant Health Agency, the successful candidate will also provide advice on arthropod-borne viruses both within the organisation and to relevant national stakeholders. The position will involve working in SAPO4/ACDP3 containment laboratories, maintaining insectaries, performing vector-competence studies, supporting disease surveillance initiatives, and undertaking bioinformatic analyses.
The role sits within an active research team and the applicant will be encouraged to collaborate with scientists both within and outside the agency. Alongside vector borne disease surveillance and research, managing the delivery of diagnostic testing for arboviral diseases and diagnostic test development will be an important responsibility.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, demonstrated through published research in peer-reviewed journals, have a knowledge of animal and zoonotic pathogens and a broad understanding of molecular techniques, including qPCR, and sequence analysis.
In return we will support your ongoing scientific and professional development with tailored training and outreach opportunities. You will also enjoy excellent Civil Service benefits including a pension and flexible working patterns.
