Data Scientist- PhD graduate


I am working with a cancer drug discovery company in Cambridge who are looking for a Data Scientist to join their team. They are either looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join them at a senior level or can consider a PhD graduate looking to move into industry.

The company are a spin out from a larger institute and they are focussed on treating cancers based upon their tissue of origin. They are doing this through their next-generation tumour systems, genetic tools, massive datasets, combined with AI to enable them to identify and exploit cancer vulnerabilities.

As a Data Scientist you will provide data science support across a range of drug discovery activities to meet the business needs using advanced statistical and AI algorithms incorporating large scale patient, genomic and functional datasets to guide drug discovery.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
*Working as a team to create the data science infrastructure to meet the business needs
*Collaborate with colleagues to translate business needs into high value IT solutions in a timely fashion
*Develop and maintain production informatics platforms
*Work to achieve scientific deliverables and milestones at agreed quality and timescales
*Communicate analytical products and outputs to stakeholders

The company is looking for someone who has the following skills/qualifications:

*PhD in bioinformatics, data science, computer science or relocate discipline
*Ideally some experience working in industry or academia but can consider a strong PhD graduate
*Experience using statistical and/or artificial intelligence approaches, including but not limited to linear regression models, machine learning (elastic net, lasso, ridge regression)
*Knowledge of human genetics and drug discovery
*Experience in the analysis of large-scale genomic, functional genomic or clinical datasets
*Knowledge of programming in R, Python, or similar
*Knowledge of software development methodologies e.g. Scrum/Agile, CI/CD, Concurrent Version Systems (e.g. Git)
