Production Lab Manager

North West London   •  £40000 - £50000 per annum  •  Permanent, Full time

A growing FMCG company has an exciting opportunity for a Production Lab Manager to join its team. You will lead a busy team in the running of a fast-paced, automated production line and QC laboratory. You must have experience in managing a GMP production team and ideally a chemistry background.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, and work in accordance with, all laboratory SOPs
  • Work to ISO 9001/2008 framework
  • Ensure that the Team Leaders are working with daily/weekly schedules, the process for checking batch codes, juice weights, measures etc. are followed by them
  • Manage Team Leaders within a specified area and group.
  • Carry out periodic audits to ensure the TLs are supporting and assisting the teams in maintaining the required hygiene (clean as you go) and safety standards within the company across all operational areas
  • Actively participate and own the continuous improvement projects in the Lab
  • Drive continuous improvement when it comes to Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery, while growing and expanding capabilities that meet production mandatory requirements
  • Waste reduction - drive process improvement plan to deliver 7% waste target
  • Develop and adhere to a life cycle management process for automation systems
  • Support with the development of Standard Operating Procedures bespoke to the operations area and comply with the process flows for train
  • Enforce and maintain all quality standards and required testing for products created
  • Run and manage all semi-automatic machines and contact the relevant engineer in the event of a breakdown
  • Work to, and aspire to exceed KPIs.
  • Ensure risk assessments are carried out on a regular basis and that all staff, including other staff, are fully aware of risks
  • Procure product parts; nicotine, flavours (including molecules), diluents and other liquid product components, set up/monitor min./max. stock level for each product
  • Ensure that only permitted people enter the Laboratory and analytical areas
  • Ensure all analytical work is conducted within the analytical room
  • Ensure all suppliers and costs are reviewed on a regular basis for quality, cost performance and delivery lead times
  • Work within annual department budget
  • All correspondence with other management should be supported by documentation
  • Liaise and work with the Product Development Manager to ensure all products comply with current and future regulation and the law

Experience Required:

  • Previous experience in managing GMP production environments
  • Previous experience in leading a team
  • Background in chemistry - desirable
