Principal Scientist - Human Genetics!

Exclusive role with a top 20 Pharmaceutical company based in Germany!

We are working this role exclusively for a client who develops breakthrough therapies and innovative healthcare solutions in areas of unmet medical needs for both humans and animals. They focus on long-term performance.

They are now looking for a principal scientist to join their amazing team.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in drug discovery in a large pharma company or biotech and have extensive experience with one of the following disease areas: metabolic diseases, autoimmune diseases, neurological/psychiatric diseases or cancer immunology.

Tasks & responsibilities

●As Principal Scientist you are accountable for establishing common genetic methods, such as GWAS / PheWAS, fine mapping, Mendelian Randomisation and Polygenic Risk Score based patient stratification.
●You drive the analytic development utilising population level genomics datasets to better characterise gene function and their roles in diseases.
●By collaborating with experimental, clinical and bioinformatics scientists, you support the design of studies for target and biomarker discovery and drive scientific and strategic priorities to accelerate portfolio advancement.
●You identify suitable statistical and machine learning methods, propose ideas and implement prototype workflows that are reproducible and self-contained (e.g. through R/python packaging, ideally containerised through Docker).
●Identifying external collaboration opportunities to help develop key analytical and pharmacological needs of the company is also part of your new profile.

Requirements

●PhD in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Genetic Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science or related fields
●Sound expertise in statistic genetics workflows and practices as well as fluency in applying common tool chains (e.g. GWAS/PheWAS, fine mapping, colocalization, mendelian randomisation, polygenic risk score based patient stratification)
●Extensive experience in statistical computing with proven expertise in relevant programming languages (e.g. R, Python)
●Relevant experience in drug discovery or biomedical research, ideally in applying genetic methodology to provide actionable insights for discovering and developing drug targets
●Established professional experience in the management of large human cohort data from case-control studies or biobanks as well as in designing and implementing statistical models for production
●Experienced organisational skills with an attention to detail; demonstrated project management skills in leading cross functional teams and an established, wide-ranging network with scientific communities
