Senior QA Officer

Hampshire   •  £24000 - £40000 per annum  •  Permanent, Full time


A growing food manufacturer has an exciting opportunity for a Senior QA Officer to join its team. Your role will be to support the quality assurance team, in particular to ensure the raw materials and packaging comply to food safety, quality and regulatory requirements. To be considered, you must have a science degree couple with some experience in food safety or quality assurance.

Key tasks

  • Maintenance of the supplier and product risk assessment matrix and review programme for existing and new suppliers and materials
  • Assessment of the supplier food safety and quality management systems to ensure compliance to company requirements, including supplier audits where required
  • Assessment of supplier corporate social responsibility to ensure compliance with requirements
  • Assessment of raw materials, packaging items and processing aids to ensure compliance with requirements of food safety, quality and regulatory compliance and suitability for products
  • Supporting the purchasing department with supplier performance management programmes, making recommendations for go/no-go decisions, and communication on approval status
  • Carry out internal QMS audits and validation/verification exercises to the required timings
  • Review and update relevant QMS procedures and policies
  • Support with customer and third party audits
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of the food safety culture
  • Support in the development and improvement of food safety systems through HACCP/TACCP and work instructions
  • Managing the completion of actions identified from non-compliances
  • Advise on responses to customer queries/questionnaires on food safety and compliance systems
  • Carry out investigations and report on customer complaints and internal non-conformances

  • Support the purchasing department with development and implementation of the Supplier Sustainable Supply chain programme
  • Use Sedex and Ecovadis to assess and monitor our supply chain on compliance to Social Responsibility policies and requirements of our customers.
  • Actively promote Health & Safety awareness and fulfil responsibilities of the position as defined in Health & Safety and Environmental policies/codes of practice
  • Report all incidents and hazards
  • Conform to and develop area safety standards for safe working practices and good housekeeping

Experience Required:

  • Relevant Science degree
  • Experience and training in external foods safety audits and supplier assurance
  • Experience in globally-recognised food safety standards,
  • Formally trained in HACCP and food hygiene
  • Demonstrable experience in building strong supplier relationships
  • Desirable to have knowledge of food flavouring industry and regulations
