Phenotypeca is a yeast Biofoundry business. We have the world’s largest collection of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains for industrial recombinant protein production, comprising up to a billion genetically distinct strains. Phenotypeca optimises biologics production strains to make treatments more affordable and available at the right quality to those who need them.
We’re seeking an experienced Research Scientist with molecular biology and protein expression experience for yeast R&D projects based in the Synthetic Biology Research Centre at University of Nottingham. This is a full time, fixed term position from February 2021 to July 2022, reporting to the Research Director.
Candidates must have a life-science PhD or equivalent, preferably with experience in cloning, PCR, recombinant protein expression and yeast molecular biology. Industrial experience in customer-centric projects and research commercialisation would be an advantage. Ideally you will also have experience in laboratory workflow automation and handling large data sets, such as in a machine learning project.
You’ll be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for meeting corporate and R&D goals providing improved strains of S. cerevisiae, to customers and/or partners for biologics production.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and excellent oral and written communication will be expected. Active participation in research strategy and liaising with project partners, service providers and stakeholders is also required. Additional duties will be expected from time to time.
You’ll also be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment is maintained at all times by the implementation of Phenotypeca and University of Nottingham procedures and guidelines. The preparation and maintenance of EH&S documentation and SOPs is also required.
Salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
Applications with full CV will be accepted until 31st January 2021 and should be sent to Dr Chris Finnis at email@example.com.
