Sensory Technologist

South East   •  £25000 - £30000 per annum  •  Permanent, Full time

A leading supplier into the flavour and fragrance industries requires an experienced Sensory Technologist to join its team. Your role will be to lead the sensory assessment panel, create new methodologies for panellists and support and implement the relevant quality, health and safety practises. To be considered, you will have a scientific degree with previous experience in a sensory testing lab.


  • Lead the sensory assessment panel for routine quality control of raw materials and finished product; and for product development samples
  • Determine sensory training requirements and methodology for sensory panellists, using ISO standards or equivalent globally recognised methods
  • Manage training and testing programmes of panellists at appropriate intervals to ensure all panellists are working to the same criteria, i.e. the skills and scoring are 'calibrated
  • Support investigations into product quality complaints and failures due to sensory criteria
  • Implement appropriate corrective action in the sensory lab or testing parameters where required
  • Determine and arrange appropriate sensory testing methodology for assessing materials using ISO methodology where appropriate, e.g. triangle, ranking, paired testing
  • Support the shelf life testing of new and current products using appropriate sensory methods
  • Creating sensory 'spider diagrams' of taste profiles for marketing collateral
  • Develop methodology to validate materials are compliant with Flavouring regulations descriptions, e.g. Flavours with modifying properties, FTNF

Experience Required:

  • Science degree preferable
  • Expert sensory capability
  • Experience in a sensory testing lab
  • Understanding of statistical methods in analysing results
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting detail
  • Analytical thinking
  • Good team working skills
