Business Development Lead - Defence & Security R&D - Cambridge

A world-renowned innovator of technologies for the defence and security sector, based in Cambridge are looking to bolster their commercial team with a business development leader.

As a Business Development Lead within this organisation, you will be responsible for the identification, strategy and ongoing development of potential clients within the company's key markets. You will take ownership on establishing and developing key commercial relationships as well as leading all marketing activities and contract negotiations.

You will be working closely with technical staff and commercial leaders within the business to establish new strategies and strengthen existing avenues to ensure that the company's exemplary reputation is upheld and their position within the marketplace is maintained. This role will place an emphasis on client development and maturing relationships with the aim of winning repeat business.

Some of the technologies you will be working with include secure communication systems, sensing and detection technologies as well as deploying data analytics and advanced algorithms in the field. Because of the complexity of the R&D programmes the company look for people who have hands-on engineering expertise and who have progressed into a commercial role.

This is not a standard sales role. You will be involved throughout the client project; from initial concept through to delivery.

As well as having hands-on research and development experience you will need to have proven business development skills and a strong academic record. Any additional experience with server side software systems would be advantageous to your application.
