Laboratory Supervisor - Microbiology

We are currently looking for a Laboratory Supervisor - Microbiology to join a leading microbiology testing company based in the Scottish Borders. As the Laboratory Supervisor - Microbiology, you will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day running of the busy testing laboratory including assisting with training and mentoring analysts, Quality Control, stock-keeping, recording and reporting of results and maintaining the Quality System.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties as the Laboratory Supervisor - Microbiology will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Organising, training, supervising and mentoring a team of laboratory analysts in a range of microbiological and QC techniques.

2. Handling of reference and working cultures for QC, and preparation of microbiological growth medium. Additionally, you will be expected to carry out relevant daily checks and ensure that the laboratory meets requirements of accreditation at all times.

3. Reading of plates and recording, reporting and interpretation of results, and recording any non-conformances appropriately and reporting to Lab Management. As the Laboratory Supervisor - Microbiology, you will additionally participate in Laboratory Continuous Improvement Team meetings and quality meetings. You will also assist with internal and external audits.

4. Calibration of laboratory equipment and general laboratory stock control and ordering.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Laboratory Supervisor - Microbiology we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Minimum of a HND in a biological sciences discipline (or equivalent).

2. Proven industry experience in a food testing laboratory, with strong organisational, leadership and communication skills.
