100,000 Genomes Project - London - Permanent!
Paramount are working in partnership with Genomics England in Central London to expand their team in order to deliver success with the 100,000 Genomes Project. This is a challenging and fast moving project with the aim to carry out whole genome sequencing on 100,000 participants.
Currently their Research Environment team are looking for an experienced Java/Front End Developer who will be responsible for creating server, web applications and REST APIs and utilising programming skills for data manipulation from large data sets. You will be developing and maintaining applications within the Research Environment and supporting activities including the data platform.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Software Developer will involve:
-Providing high quality, testable and performant software as well as technical expertise on software development
-Taking an active role in story definition, building acceptance criteria for QA and liaison with product owners, project managers and other business stakeholders
-Carrying out development planning and estimating using Agile development processes
-Developing services, databases and web applications for analysing, modelling, searching and presenting clinical and genomic data and integrating genomic API
-Designing and updating software databases and leading on troubleshooting to ensure effective deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting of software tools
The ideal Java Developer should meet the following requirements:
-Educated at degree level in computer science or software engineering
-Significant experience as a full-stack developer and working on a variety of software development projects
-Significant experience using different technologies including:
*Proficiency in Java 8, Maven/Gradle, Spring, Persistence frameworks Hibernate/JPA, Junit mocking frameworks
*SQL and noSQL databases
*REST API development and Containerisation/Docker, Jenkins/Cl
-Experience designing and developing APIs and Microservices
-Proficiency in collaborative development tools (Github, Confluence, JIRA)
Genomics England works with key partners to collect, transport, store, quality check and sequence the samples from participants. The aim for this project is to create a new genomic medicine service for the NHS - transforming the way people are cared for. Patients may be offered a diagnosis where there wasn't one before. In time, there is the potential of new and more effective treatments. You will be working as part of a newly head-up team in open-plan offices, and will contribute to the largest national Genome sequencing effort of its kind.
