Victoria Walker is recruiting for a Laboratory Manager to join a provider of chemical waste treatment, disposal and recycling services, based in Derbyshire (commutable from Nottinghamshire) on a full time, permanent basis.
The company has a number of sites throughout the UK and this role is based at their Head Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a busy waste industry laboratory which serves a key function within the business, supporting all of the company operational sites. The laboratory conducts analysis on a wide range of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes using techniques such as ICP-OES, IC, GC-MS, XRD and general wet chemistry techniques. In exchange for previous experience in a similar role, the company is prepared to offer a salary in the region of £27,000 to £30,000 p.a. according to skills and experience. Hours of work are 8am-6pm Monday - Friday.
Further responsibilities of this Laboratory Manager will include:
·Day-to-day management of 2 degree qualified laboratory chemists.
·Overall analytical responsibility for the site laboratories and other site's laboratories also.
·Conducting analysis on samples of waste using various techniques.
·Interpreting results to assess suitability of material for different applications.
·Maintaining laboratory SOPs and risk assessments.
·Ensuring all laboratory equipment is calibrated and maintained in accordance with the QMS requirements/manufacturers recommendations.
·Ensure laboratory consumables are maintained
·Providing group support in areas such as GHS, CoSHH assessments.
·Conduct / oversee environmental monitoring of the site to ensure it remains in compliance with its environmental permit.
·Undertake project work and develop new analytical methods
·Manage external analysis reports.
·Produce Laboratory reports for company directors.
·Work with the HSEQ manager to maintain and develop quality systems and be involved in internal audits.
As a Laboratory Manager, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
·Degree in chemistry or related discipline strongly preferred; HNC chemistry minimum
·Previous experience within waste/ materials testing - essential
·Supervisory experience within a laboratory setting - preferred but not essential as long as considerable industrial experience within waste/ materials testing is demonstrated
·Understanding of GHS/ CoSHH preferred
·Experience working with ISO 9001 preferred
·Experience of environmental monitoring preferred
