Bioinformatics Consultant - 100,000 Genomes Project

The 100,000 Genomes Project is the biggest of its kind in the world; some of the brightest minds in Europe work together to perform whole genome sequencing on 100,000 participants, collecting and storing data that can be used to develop personalised medicines that will revolutionise the face of modern medicine. Genomics England now have a requirement for a talented Bioinformatician to utilise their expert knowledge by guiding high-profile customers within the GENE consortium through the outstanding possibilities their data can offer. The Bioinformatics consultant is to deliver specialist, bespoke advice according to the desired end result of a project. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable Bioinformatician who enjoys communication and customer interaction.

Key accountabilities:

*A strong understanding of the research environment
*Understanding the needs of customers; working with customers to ensure that their scientific projects are successful and that they gain value from their interactions with our Research Environment. This includes face to face engagement to assess needs and execution.
*Troubleshooting problems with customers, apprise options and execute solutions, co-ordinating with internal teams when necessary.
*Being the key point of contact with customers collecting and updating requirements, communicating progress and feedback
*Collaborating internally, particularly with others in the Research Environment team, our Commercial team, bioinformaticians and software and infrastructure engineers, to develop and deploy suitable solutions for customers.

Essential skills:

*Strong customer-service orientation and proven expertise in partnership working with customers, preferably in the scientific/pharma industry.
*Demonstrated knowledge and competence in relevant programming languages and applications (e.g. R, S, Python, Perl, SQL) and experience of using a suite of bioinformatics tools to problem solve and answer research questions.
*Willingness to travel occasionally (
