Head of Commercial Partnerships
Paramount are working in partnership with Genomics England to expand their team in order to deliver success with the 100,000 Genomes Project. This is a challenging and fast moving project with the aim to carry out whole genome sequencing on 100,000 participants. Genomics England works with key partners to collect, transport, store, quality check and sequence the samples from participants. The aim for this project is to create a new genomic medicine service for the NHS - transforming the way people are cared for. Patients may be offered a diagnosis where there wasn't one before. In time, there is the potential of new and more effective treatments.
Overall job purpose:
The post holder acts as the main interface between Genomics England and the life science and bioinformatics sectors. Leads the initiation, development and maintenance of the engagement with current and potential industrial partners.
*Works with the Commercial Director to determine and execute the commercial strategy and operational delivery plan for Genomics England
*Leads the GENE Consortium and manages delivery of existing agreements and communication with stakeholders from across relevant areas of industry partners
*Develops and evaluates the future relationships with existing industry partners and potential partners from across the spectrum of the life sciences industry
*Works with internal and external partners to ensure success of research/informatics platform to meet industry needs
*Coordinates internal resources to meet commercial agreements and communicate voice of industry into activities.
Essential skills, knowledge and behaviours required for fully effective performance in this role:
*Ability to create and gain sponsorship for comprehensive 'business cases' and to contribute to innovative strategy development
*Commercially astute, with a demonstrable understanding of, and success in, income generation, negotiation and partnership working
*Business qualification or equivalent experience e.g. consulting
*Strong stakeholder and partnership skillsets; effective at working with and influencing key opinion leaders
*Demonstration of successful working across government, academia, the health sector and industry
*Experience of working within a matrix organisation and/or a dynamic project environment
*Good presentation and networking skills.
*Demonstrable project management capability.
*Enthusiasm and drive and 'self starter' abilities.
*Working knowledge of contract negotiation.
Desirable and relevant but not essential skills, knowledge and behaviours *Masters/Postgraduate education in a life science discipline, preferably medically qualified
*Likely to have worked in a life science commercial, medical and/or scientific role
*Experience of working on a large genomics or similar scientific programme
*Knowledge of analysis platforms for genome interpretation
