Since its formation in May 2005, Monica Healthcare has evolved from a University spin-out to a cutting edge medical product design company focussed on developing a series of innovative ambulatory medical devices, using wireless technologies to facilitate globally accessible obstetric services in the home and hospital environment.
Monica’s formation followed a successful £650K seed fundraising. It was the culmination of 15 years of research into fECG at the Schools of Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Human Development (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) at The University of Nottingham. Catapult Venture Managers Ltd were the lead investor at this round, committing £250K alongside £200K from The Lachesis Fund with the balance from company directors and £150K EU grant funding. Monica also won the best Bioscience Business Plan at the Joint Research Council competition in 2004. Monica’s executive team have extensive experience in patient monitoring equipment markets, high-tech device development and fetal monitoring within the business and at board level.
