Why use a recruitment agency?

by Martin Fahy at Matchtech

This was a question I was asked during the week by a candidate, an intelligent question as I recruit in the medical sector, working predominantly with the leading private healthcare providers in the UK. I say intelligent because in my market there are only a handful of employers and this won't change in the foreseeable future so why not just apply direct?

Matchtech operates in niche markets and train their consultants to specialise in their market. I've been working with many of my clients for over 3 years now; I have visited their hospitals, met with management, placed candidates and over time developed a detailed understanding of their recruitment processes.

As a recruitment consultant I take the 'consultant' part of my job title very seriously, no two of my clients are the same; they hold different values and each commit to a different ethos in providing exceptional healthcare. It is my job to provide a consultative approach when speaking with candidates to ensure the employers I put them forward to meet their career aspirations and personal values.

Following on from the initial application I'm in a good position to manage expectations; I know what my clients and looking for in a candidate and I know what they expect to see at interview. If the candidate has any questions throughout the recruitment process, has concerns or needs advice, I am there to act as a point of contact. Not all agencies provide this level of service but the ones that do provide an invaluable tool to candidates in securing the next step in their career.
